25-year-old Marjan Kodheli remains in custody after stabbing his father in Durrës

Marjan Kodheli, 25, who fatally stabbed his father Pjetër Kodheli a few days ago in Durrës, has been remanded in custody by the Durrës Court.

The “arrest in custody” measure was confirmed as lawful.

The lawyer of the perpetrator, Tone Lekgegaj, stated: “The arrest was deemed lawful and Marjan Kodheli has been left in custody. A preliminary examination has not yet been conducted, and he still does not understand the act he committed. Marjan is seen as a withdrawn and silent person; we do not know what he has suffered internally. This was a serious act, an unpremeditated action by anyone.

It was a spontaneous act. The family has been considered respectable and hardworking in the community. The deceased was a family man, disciplined, and diligent, contributing to his household. I have heard from people that he [the deceased] had even reconciled disputes (*pajtuar gjaqe*). The perpetrator’s mother and the deceased’s wife stated that there were never any conflicts. Marjan emigrated at 18 and completed high school. While in school, he also worked.

After turning 18, he lived abroad, and we do not know how he felt there. When he returned in June, he was quiet. He was waiting to get a ticket to return to work. A few days ago, his grandmother passed away. His father asked him to stay a few more days and told him to be careful when receiving and seeing off visitors. Perhaps these words did not sit well with him. Marjan has never been brought to a police station before,” said the lawyer Tone Lekgegaj.
