Two new details have been revealed regarding the incident in which two officers of the Korçë Local Police Directorate were injured during an anti-drug operation in the Lumalas area.
According to sources, the officers were chasing a vehicle suspected of transporting narcotics. The driver, after allegedly leaving a quantity of drugs at a bar in the village of Lumalas, had headed toward the city of Korçë.
When he spotted the police vehicle with the two officers, he is suspected of deliberately crashing into their car in an attempt to escape the chase.
As a result of the collision, the two officers were injured. One of them was transported to Tirana for medical treatment, while the other is receiving care in Korçë.
During a search carried out at the bar where the drugs were allegedly delivered, police found small amounts of narcotics as well as a poker table.
Two people have been arrested: the bar waiter, Vangjel Dushku, and the person suspected of distributing the drugs, Xhenart Laloti. Meanwhile, the bar owner has been declared wanted.
Sources also say that a small amount of drugs was thrown by the roadside during the escape.
Investigations are ongoing to fully clarify the incident and identify other individuals involved in the criminal activity.
