After-school program: Teachers to be paid 1,000 lekë for each hour after classes, who can participate and how to apply
The government has approved new rules for implementing the “After School” program in public pre-university education institutions. The program will take place outside regular teaching hours and aims to strengthen students’ knowledge while also developing their social, sports, cultural, artistic, and creative skills.
Teachers and trainers who will be involved in the program will be paid 1,000 lekë for each hour completed after regular classes.
The payment will be considered compensation for a special educational service and will not be included in the teacher’s monthly salary. Participation in the program will also not change the teacher’s mandatory teaching workload.
The program is open to teachers currently employed in public schools, whether on permanent or temporary contracts. Candidates who have passed the “Teachers for Albania” portal exam and are on the waiting list for employment will also have the opportunity to participate.
The program is also open to retired former teachers, as well as individuals with degrees in teaching or related fields.
For artistic and cultural activities, participation will be available to teachers with artistic profiles, graduates in the arts, former teachers in these fields, and professionals who have worked in cultural institutions.
Artisans registered as bearers of folklore or intangible cultural heritage values can also become part of the program.
The National Agency for Pre-University Education will publish the call for applications, and candidates will have a 10-day deadline to submit their requests.
Teachers who are currently employed will apply through the Pre-University Information Management System (SMIP).
Candidates on the waiting list will apply through the electronic service “Teachers for Albania” on the e-Albania portal.
Retired teachers, graduates, artists, and artisans will submit their applications to the local pre-university education office where the school is located.
Teachers working at the school where the program will take place will have priority in the selection process.
Their evaluation will be carried out by a three-member commission consisting of the school principal, a teacher selected by the teachers’ council, and the chairperson of the parents’ council.
If there are no candidates from the school itself, available positions may be filled by teachers from the portal or applicants from other eligible categories.
After selection, the trainer will sign a service contract with the educational institution, while funding will be covered by the annual budget allocated for the “After School” program.
