Ceasefire violated / Israel blames Hamas, at least eight killed in Gaza

Israeli military strikes killed at least eight Palestinians across the Gaza Strip amid a delay in the implementation of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, according to the Palestinian Civil Emergency Service.

Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari said the ceasefire would not begin until Hamas handed over the names of three hostages, who would be released later on Sunday, echoing a previous statement by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The ceasefire was set to take effect this morning, around 08:30 local time.

The ceasefire was intended to halt the fighting after 15 months of war and to facilitate the release of dozens of hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip and hundreds of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel.
