Drama in Korçë: Abandoned baby left in grandmother’s care, police searching for the mother

The State Police have referred the case to the prosecutor’s office and issued a wanted notice for a 40-year-old woman suspected of abandoning her infant in Korçë.

According to the official statement from the State Police, the woman identified by the initials M.D., 40 years old and a resident of Korçë, is suspected of committing the criminal offense of “Abandonment of minors.”

Official sources report that the infant, only a few months old, was abandoned about four days ago and left in the care of her grandmother. The current whereabouts of the 40-year-old remain unknown.

The case was brought to the authorities’ attention by a social services worker from the Municipality of Korçë. Following the alert, police structures initiated procedural actions and searches to locate the mother.

Authorities report that investigations are ongoing, and preliminary information indicates that the infant is at risk of being without direct parental care.
