El Niño has begun! Risk and concern over extreme temperature fluctuations, expected to be the strongest wave

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has announced the start of a new cycle of the climate phenomenon El Niño. According to experts, there is around a 63% chance that this phenomenon will develop into a “Super El Niño,” one of the strongest recorded since 1950.
Forecasts suggest that El Niño could last until early 2027 and significantly impact the global climate, increasing the risk of extreme weather events.
El Niño is part of the ENSO climate system, which also includes the opposite phase, La Niña. It is linked to unusual warming of the Pacific Ocean waters, which affects atmospheric circulation worldwide.
Although the phenomenon itself does not directly cause storms or floods, it creates conditions that favor more heatwaves, droughts, heavy rainfall, flooding, and wildfires.
According to forecasts, some areas of South America may face more severe droughts, while parts of Mexico and the United States may experience increased rainfall.
Scientists explain that El Niño is a natural phenomenon, but global warming may increase the intensity of its impacts.
The World Meteorological Organization warns that a strong El Niño could worsen droughts and extreme rainfall, as well as increase heatwaves on land and in the oceans.
Experts estimate that the coming years could be among the hottest ever recorded, with significant impacts on the global climate.
