Patient Kujtim Mero, who was accused a day earlier of threatening the medical staff at the dialysis department in Korça by claiming he would set himself on fire with gasoline, has responded by denying these claims. He explained that he was simply at the hospital for his regular dialysis treatment and that he argued with the staff due to delays in the service.
According to him, it is not true that he was carrying gasoline cans, and the only thing he had with him was his bread. “These are lies; it’s not true that I had gasoline with me. I haven’t reached the point they think I have, and they are trying to portray me as a crazy person. If I had a personal problem with someone, I would resolve it with that person, not with such extreme actions. I am a person who knows very well what he is doing because I am approaching 70 years old and I don’t make such mistakes,” he said.
Mero emphasized that the argument occurred after he had missed three dialysis sessions in January, which made him feel dissatisfied. He considers the incident to be a trap set up by certain people to provoke him. “Everything was prepared in advance, they put me in this situation on purpose so that I would argue. But I remained very calm and had no intention of doing anything violent,” he said.
He also denied that the police found any flammable substances with him when they arrived at the hospital. “What would they have found? I had nothing with me. Even when the police arrived, they searched me and didn’t find anything suspicious. All of this is made up and lies,” he emphasized.
Another issue raised by Mero was his transport to the hospital. He requested that the car used to transport him be changed due to a defect, but his request was not fulfilled. “I simply asked for the car to be changed because the one that usually takes me had a problem, but they didn’t change it. I didn’t ask for anything more, but then this fabricated situation happened,” he said.
In the end, he reiterated that he is a patient who only wants to receive his proper treatment and that he has no intention of engaging in violent actions. “I just want to receive my dialysis on time and as I am entitled to. I have no problems with anyone, and I never thought of harming myself or others. But they treated me as if I were crazy, even though that is not true at all. Everything that happened was pure fabrication,” he concluded.
