Maliq with Korçë? Topçiu: It is unclear what will change

The Mayor of Maliq, Gëzim Topçiu, has spoken for the first time about the proposal to merge the Municipality of Maliq with the Municipality of Korçë, as part of the new territorial reform.

Topçiu said it is still unclear what would specifically change if the reform is approved, particularly regarding the status of the cities, powers, finances and investments.

According to him, merging with Korçë would not necessarily be a problem if public services continued to remain accessible to citizens and obtaining them did not become more difficult.

He stressed that the reform should not be limited only to changing the territorial division, but should also be accompanied by changes to the law on local government, local finances and the powers of the cities.

According to Topçiu, the draft law provides for the merger of Maliq with Korçë, while the internal organization would change. Maliq would continue to have its own structure, and the administrative units would not be directly dependent on Korçë.
