For four days, dozens of truck drivers have been stuck in Qukës following the closure of the Librazhd road, making it impossible for them to continue their journey toward Tirana.

According to the truck drivers, advice from ARRSH (the Albanian Road Authority) is ineffective because they have already cleared customs for their cargo and cannot enter North Macedonia, as there is no agreement between the two governments to resolve this issue.

They report that, in addition to fatigue, the long wait is causing significant economic damage.

“I was at Kapshticë. On the way, we were informed about the road closure. It’s been four days and we haven’t received any notice. They told us it would open today, but it’s still closed. No answers, nothing. Major economic damage. I have cleared customs—how is that supposed to work? The governments themselves need to fix this; there’s no solution,” one driver said.

“A big problem. We’ve been waiting for days. Just waiting, but we get no answers,” another added.

“Today is the third day; no one tells us anything, not tomorrow, not the day after. Police stop us; we are stuck on the road. It’s been four days. We can’t move. We can’t go to Qafë Thanë because we already completed the paperwork. The cargo will spoil,” said another driver.

Under these conditions, the truckers can do nothing but wait, as they are isolated, while the route via Përmet is extremely difficult to traverse.
