Public health risk: Listeriosis spreads through exported products

Twenty-one people, aged between 34 and 95, have been affected by listeriosis, according to the French Public Health Agency. Two of them have died. Health officials have identified a possible link between these cases and the consumption of cheeses made from pasteurized milk produced by the company Chavegrand. Urgent measures have been taken to withdraw these products from the market.

The contaminated products were distributed in major supermarkets across France and exported to around 30 countries, including Albania, the United Kingdom, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, and others.

Most infected individuals may show no symptoms or only mild signs, but in some cases, listeriosis can become a serious and life-threatening illness.

Listeriosis is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and in severe cases, meningitis.

French authorities are urging citizens to avoid consuming the recalled cheeses and to closely monitor their health if they have recently eaten them.

Symptoms of listeriosis can appear up to eight weeks after consuming contaminated food.
