Third day as an independent, Marjana Koçeku responds to the SP: “You owe me the mandate”

Just three days after leaving the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party and declaring herself an independent MP, Marjana Koçeku has responded to critics within the majority who are asking her to give up her mandate.

In a post on social media, Koçeku stated that the mandate does not belong to the Socialist Party, but to her and the voters who supported her. “I did not take the MP mandate from you. You took it from me for 10 months straight. Now the mandate has returned to its rightful place,” she wrote.

The MP also challenged the Socialists, saying that if they are convinced she cannot win without the SP, they should dissolve parliament and call early elections. In a sarcastic tone, Koçeku said that this time she will run in Tirana “with my beloved goat and my sharp sickle,” adding that before coming to the capital she will ask permission from her highland community to speak standard Albanian.
