From North Carolina, on his first official trip as President of the United States, Donald Trump spoke again about Canada, saying that he wants it to become the 51st state of the USA.

The Republican revealed that in his last phone conversation with Trudeau, before the latter’s resignation, he had asked him, ‘Why should the US spend 200 billion dollars a year on the country at the northern border?’

Trump said that the Canadian Prime Minister, who resigned, had responded, ‘I don’t know,’ and continued to repeat that the US ‘doesn’t need Canada at all.’

Trump emphasized that there is no issue with specific budget spending since Canada is another American state and not a foreign country.

‘Historically, Canada has treated us very badly and continues to do so,’ said Trump.

It is noted that Justin Trudeau, as well as the Canadian opposition, have strongly reacted to Trump’s recent statements, clarifying that if the US proceeds with imposing tariffs, they will respond with the same move and have clarified that Canada is an independent country that ‘is not for sale and will not be incorporated.”
