Violence before the Iliria–Skënderbeu match/ What will happen to the cancelled match?!

Yesterday’s Iliria–Skënderbeu encounter was a match that did not see even a single minute of play due to the violence directed at Skënderbeu’s players. Following the incident, a significant police presence entered the stadium, where statements were taken from the players and the technical staff.

After this moment, the Albanian Football Federation (FSHF) decided that the match would not be played. What happens next will no longer be decided on the field but at the table by the Disciplinary Commission.

The match observer and the delegate have both documented the entire incident and have already submitted their reports to the AFF. Once these are analyzed, everyone anxiously awaits the decision of the Disciplinary Commission.

First of all, the chances are high that Skënderbeu will be awarded the victory by default, as the violence was clear and evident. Not only were Skënderbeu’s players attacked, but even members of the staff and notably, by Iliria’s own players.

An unprecedented case, and the Disciplinary Commission is not expected to show leniency toward Iliria. Based on what happened, Skënderbeu deserves the three points.

While Skënderbeu awaits the decision, another possible outcome though unlikely is that the match could be rescheduled and played on another field, far from Fushë Kruja. Still, given the severity of the reports, the Commission is expected to award the victory to Skënderbeu.

An uncommon and serious incident in Albanian football, something that had not occurred for quite some time and this time, Skënderbeu was the victim.

Ultimately, Iliria must receive a firm lesson, as Skënderbeu came to play football but was met instead with blatant aggression.

If ever there was a moment to set a strong precedent against those who bring violence to football, this was it, the incident in yesterday’s match in Fushë Kruja.
