While patrolling near the Morinë border crossing point, a police officer lost his life after being hit by a car

A Kosovo Police officer has tragically died this morning after being hit by a vehicle near the Vërmicë border crossing in Morinë.


According to the 24-hour report of the Kosovo Police, the accident occurred around 05:40, when the officer was patrolling on foot near the border point. While attempting to cross the road, he was struck by a vehicle traveling on the Prizren–Vërmicë route.


The victim has been identified as R.G., 59, a police officer, who died at the scene due to the severity of the impact.


The on-duty prosecutor, the Regional Traffic Unit of Prizren, and emergency teams arrived at the scene and confirmed the officer’s death.


By order of the prosecutor, the body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, an Albanian citizen with the initials D.D., has been detained for 48 hours.


The Basic Prosecution in Prizren has launched an investigation to fully clarify the circumstances of the accident.
