The trafficking of a significant quantity of drugs was prevented by officers of the Narcotics Department of the Sub-Directorate for Crime Investigation and Prosecution in Igoumenitsa, who arrested a Greek citizen this morning. A criminal case has been filed against him for drug trafficking and transportation.

Specifically, according to the case chronology, police officers located a private vehicle in the area of Sagiada, near the Greek-Albanian border, as part of targeted checks. The car, owned by a rental company, was being driven by an 18-year-old Greek citizen.

During a subsequent search, police found and seized three bags in the trunk and rear seats of the vehicle, containing a total of 55 packages of marijuana, with a total weight of 60 kg and 565 grams.

Since September, Greek police have seized around 835 kg of marijuana suspected to have originated from Albania. These cases have been recorded in Igoumenitsa via land and sea routes, as well as in Ioannina, Thessaloniki, and Kastoria.
