The Albanian football championship is expected to introduce important changes in the new season, aiming to increase competitiveness and develop domestic players.

According to the new decisions, in the Albanian Superliga clubs will be allowed to field up to 7 foreign players, while they will have the right to register a maximum of 9 foreign players in total. This change comes after a season in which there was no limit on the number of foreign players on the field, but which did not bring the expected improvement in league quality.

Another important change concerns the rule for young players, where clubs will be required to field at least one U-18 footballer for a minimum of 45 minutes in each match.

According to football authorities, these measures aim to give more space to academy players and encourage the development of local talent, while also improving the long-term quality of the league.

It has also been announced that Kosovo and North Macedonia will not be considered foreign countries under this framework, making it easier to register players from these states.

The Albanian Football Federation has previously approved other changes to the competition format as part of a broader reform to modernize domestic football.
