Argentina’s national team has secured qualification for the World Cup semifinals after defeating Switzerland 3-1 after extra time.

The defending champions took the lead in the 10th minute, when Alexis Mac Allister scored with a header following an assist from Lionel Messi.

Switzerland looked more threatening in the second half and managed to equalize in the 67th minute through Dan Ndoye.

Just five minutes later, the Swiss were reduced to 10 men after Breel Embolo received a second yellow card for simulation.

Despite being a player down, Switzerland held on until the end of regular time, sending the match into extra time.

In the second half of extra time, Julián Álvarez restored Argentina’s lead in the 113th minute with a strike from outside the box, while Lautaro Martínez sealed the result in the 121st minute following a counterattack.

In the next round, Argentina will face England for a place in the final.
