The 2026 World Cup will bring not only a new format with more teams, but also a technological innovation expected to change the way the game is monitored. This is the “Trionda,” the official tournament ball, which includes advanced technology to assist referees and provide more information for fans.

Produced by Adidas, “Trionda” is an intelligent ball equipped with a 14-gram integrated sensor. This sensor records speed, trajectory, spin, and player contact with the ball up to 500 times per second. During matches, the ball communicates with a network of sensors installed in the stadium, collecting and transmitting real-time data. The information is processed with the help of artificial intelligence, assisting referees in making faster and more accurate decisions in key situations, such as offside calls or verifying whether the ball has fully crossed the goal line.

An interesting detail is that, for the first time, the ball will also need to be charged before matches, as its integrated electronic system runs on a battery. Fans will also benefit, as they will be able to follow advanced real-time statistics, such as the most powerful shot, the fastest shot, or the maximum speed reached by the ball during play.

The design of “Trionda” also carries the symbolism of the 2026 World Cup. The red color represents Canada, green elements refer to Mexico, while blue with stars symbolizes the United States. Gold details pay tribute to the FIFA World Cup trophy. The 2026 tournament will also be historic for another reason: for the first time it will be hosted by three countries – Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The opening match will take place on June 11 in Mexico City, while the final will be played on July 19 in New Jersey.

The tournament will also feature the largest format in history, with 48 participating national teams. The competition will last 39 days and will include 12 groups of four teams, as well as an additional knockout round.
