The two largest cities in Greece have been included in the list of the 20 most dangerous cities in Europe, according to Numbeo’s Crime Index for 2025.
This index is based on surveys and user assessments of the feeling of safety, rather than official statistics, with scores ranging from 0 to 100.
At the top of the list is the British city of Bradford, which has the highest crime score in Europe at 67.1 points.
Other British cities such as Coventry, Birmingham, and London follow, making the United Kingdom the country with the most “dangerous” cities among the top five in Europe.
France also has a strong presence on the list, with seven cities among the top ten, including Marseille, Montpellier, Paris, Nantes, Grenoble, Lyon, and Nice. Marseille, in particular, continues to be associated with organized crime, while Paris faces security challenges in its tourist areas.
In Greece, residents of Athens and Thessaloniki appear to feel less safe compared to other regions. The crime index in Athens is estimated at 55.3, while in Thessaloniki it is 52.5, placing both cities among the 20 European cities with the highest levels of perceived insecurity.
