The Israeli army said on Sunday that it had struck a series of fighter jets that Iran had purchased from the United States before the revolution.

The fleet of F-14 aircraft parked at Isfahan Airport, south of Tehran, was a pillar of Iran’s air force and has historically been used to protect its airspace.

The Israeli army did not say whether the fighter jets were destroyed. It also said that detection and air defense systems had been struck.

The United States and Israel also hit five oil facilities in overnight strikes in and near the Iranian capital, an official told state television.

“Last night, four oil depots and a petroleum products transport center in Tehran and in the Alborz River area were attacked by enemy aircraft,” Keramat Veyskarami, executive director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, told state television.

He added that the five facilities “were damaged,” but “the fire was brought under control.”

On Saturday, an Israeli strike hit an oil storage facility in Tehran.
