Brace at the World Cup, Ronaldo speaks after the win: I’ve been silencing critics for 23 years

Portugal secured a dominant 5-0 victory over Fabio Cannavaro’s Uzbekistan, showing their full potential in the second group-stage match.

Just six minutes into the game, Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring, before defender Nuno Mendes doubled the lead in the 17th minute with a stunning free-kick.

In the 39th minute, Cristiano made it 3-0 with his second goal of the match. Then, in the 60th minute, an own goal by Nematov extended Portugal’s lead to 4-0.

Rafael Leão also got on the scoresheet, making an immediate impact off the bench and sealing the win with a goal in the 87th minute.

After the match, the captain spoke and stated: “I’ve been responding to critics for 23 years.”

“The important thing was to work for the team and have faith. We are working well and improving. Speaking about myself, these are prestigious milestones to achieve, but I prefer the team’s objectives. We’ve had a difficult week, but we are teammates who work very well together,” said CR7.

Portugal coach Roberto Martínez also had plenty of praise for both the team and Ronaldo.

“Today we gave a meaningful response. The stars showed their value, and I’m very happy with the result. Cristiano’s movement inside the box is fantastic, it was only a matter of time before he found the net,” said Martinez.
