Turkish media reports say that Galatasaray has made an official offer to British-Albanian singer Dua Lipa to perform at their upcoming championship celebrations in Istanbul.
According to the reports, the offer is worth around $2 million for performing four songs during the festive ceremony.
The invitation is seen not only as a marketing move, but also as a symbolic gesture linked to the club’s history. Galatasaray is often referred to as “the club of Istanbul’s Albanians,” due to its founding roots.
The club was established in 1905 by Ali Sami Yen, the son of the well-known Albanian figure Sami Frashëri, giving the invitation to Dua Lipa a special historical significance for both Albanian and Turkish fans.
If accepted, the performance would be funded by the club’s sponsors rather than its own budget, and would bring one of the world’s most popular pop artists to Istanbul for what could be a historic moment in Turkish football celebrations.
Media in Turkey also report that the celebrations could take place in Yenikapi, a large coastal event area in the European side of Istanbul, which has hosted major public gatherings in the past.
The news comes ahead of Galatasaray’s home match against Antalyaspor, where the club is close to securing another Super Lig title.
