Chess by the shores of Lake Ohrid/ Struga outshines Pogradec and Ohrid in cross-border championship

For the first time, chess players of all age groups from Pogradec, Ohrid, and Struga took part in a joint chess championship organized to mark International Chess Day.

The event brought together the three cities surrounding Lake Ohrid, marking a new milestone in cross-border cooperation through sport.

Participants expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, highlighting the opportunity to compete against players from neighboring countries.

They noted that chess is a sport that develops logic, strategy, and patience, while encouraging more young people to embrace the game.

At the end of the championship, Struga claimed first place, finishing ahead of the teams from Pogradec and Ohrid.

The organizers aim to make the event an annual tradition.

Future editions are expected to be held first in Ohrid and later in Struga, further strengthening this new sporting tradition and cross-border cooperation.
