Donald Trump, the American President, has issued a strong warning to China regarding the military assistance it is suspected of providing to Iran during the conflict with the U.S. and Israel.

The head of the White House responded to a question about the possibility of Beijing sending air defense systems.

“If you send weapons to Iran, China will have serious problems,” was Trump’s reply to a journalist’s question regarding media reports that Beijing is preparing to supply Tehran with new air defense systems in the coming weeks.

A few days earlier, CNN reported that U.S. intelligence has information suggesting that China is preparing to send new air defense systems to Iran within the next few weeks, in a development that could significantly affect the security balance in the Middle East.

CNN, citing three individuals familiar with the latest U.S. intelligence assessments, reports that Beijing is suspected of organizing ways to carry out these deliveries through third countries, in order to conceal their origin and avoid direct international attention.

According to the same sources, these are short-range anti-aircraft missile systems, known as MANPADS, which are used for close-range air defense and could strengthen Iran’s military capabilities on the ground.

The report comes at a highly sensitive diplomatic moment, as the United States and Iran are expected to hold high-level talks on Saturday in Islamabad, aiming to find a solution to ease tensions and avoid an escalation of the six-week conflict.

According to CNN, these developments could increase pressure on the negotiations and further complicate diplomatic efforts, at a time when the region remains tense and at high risk of further escalation.
