A serious incident has shaken the island of Crete, where a 54-year-old man shot and killed a 20-year-old in the Amoudara area of Heraklion, allegedly out of revenge.

According to Greek authorities, the perpetrator had ambushed the young man, blocking his path with a car and opening fire while he was still inside the vehicle. The victim attempted to flee on foot, but was chased by the attacker, who continued shooting until he left him dead inside a rental-room facility.

The 20-year-old was transported to the University Hospital of Heraklion, where doctors confirmed his death. The victim’s relatives are reportedly in shock.

Immediately after the crime, the 54-year-old surrendered to police, admitting responsibility. He is expected to face serious charges.

The incident is linked to a road accident that occurred in 2023, in which the perpetrator’s 17-year-old son lost his life after several days in hospital. Since then, the suspect considered the victim responsible for the tragedy.

Investigations have also uncovered previous episodes of violence. Meanwhile, police have detained the suspect’s wife, who is believed to have been present during the crime and may have collaborated.

Authorities continue investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the case, which once again brings attention to the cycle of revenge on the island of Crete.
