A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the northeastern coast of Japan, reported the country’s public broadcaster NHK.
A tsunami of up to 3 meters in height was expected to reach Iwate Prefecture on the island of Honshu, as well as parts of Hokkaido, according to the issued warning.
