Former well-known defender does not survive injuries after a road accident

Former Greek defender Marios Oikonomou has died at the age of 33 after being unable to survive severe brain injuries sustained in a road accident that occurred about nine days earlier.

Despite doctors’ efforts, his condition remained critical and he passed away due to the serious injuries.

During his career, Oikonomou played for several well-known European clubs, including AEK, Bologna, Copenhagen, Sampdoria, and Panathinaikos, leaving his mark on professional football.
