He demanded money to pay off his gambling debt, ends up in handcuffs

A 26-year-old Albanian man has been arrested by police in Italy after being accused of blackmailing and threatening to kill an Italian friend in an attempt to extort €30,000, which he allegedly intended to use to pay off a gambling debt.

According to Italian media, the ordeal lasted for about three months. The young Albanian is alleged to have repeatedly pressured the 30-year-old Italian, threatening to kill him if he failed to provide the money.

The two men met at a bar in the spring and gradually became friends. Initially, the Albanian offered help to the Italian, who, according to authorities, was experiencing certain psychological vulnerabilities. He later began asking him for financial support, taking advantage of the trust he had built.

As the weeks went by, the demands for money became increasingly frequent. The victim initially handed over all of his savings, around €14,000, but that was not enough. According to the investigation, the Albanian then forced the 30-year-old to apply for loans in order to provide him with the full amount of €30,000.

Following the victim's report and the investigation carried out by the Italian authorities, the 26-year-old Albanian was arrested and will now face charges of blackmail, making death threats, and extortion.

Police are continuing their investigation to fully clarify the circumstances of the case and determine whether the suspect may have targeted other victims as well.
