A shocking incident has shaken public opinion in Washington, D.C., where a 25-year-old mother is accused of leaving her 13-month-old twin babies alone for days, resulting in the death of her baby daughter and the endangerment of her son’s life.
According to authorities, police officers arrived at the residence on January 18 after an emergency call reporting an unresponsive child. Inside the apartment, they found the twins in severe condition. The girl, identified as Mazouri Jones, was pronounced dead at the scene, while her twin brother was found alive beside her body.
Preliminary investigations suggest that their mother, Valencia Duke, allegedly left the infants without care for extended periods. According to investigative documents, over a span of about 92 hours, she reportedly spent only brief periods at the apartment with the children.
Authorities described alarming conditions inside the home, including spoiled food, trash, and suspected narcotic substances.
The surviving boy was immediately transported to the hospital in critical condition. Doctors confirmed he was suffering from hypothermia and severe malnutrition. According to case documents, the child was in such a dire state that he attempted to bite a stethoscope, mistaking it for food.
An autopsy on the baby girl determined that she died from dehydration and severe malnutrition. Authorities classified her death as a homicide.
The 25-year-old was arrested on June 3 and now faces charges of first-degree murder and child abuse. According to U.S. media, she remains in custody without bail and is expected to appear in court for upcoming procedural hearings.
