In Kolonja, tourists have the opportunity not only to visit natural attractions and cultural heritage monuments, but also to learn how to prepare traditional dishes before enjoying them. Cooking alongside local residents is becoming one of the most attractive experiences for visitors.
French tourists, who are visiting Kolonja in large numbers this year, say they are impressed by the region’s nature, traditional cuisine, and the warm hospitality of its people.
“It was wonderful for us to learn how to make lakror and watch the local women prepare the food. What I like most about Kolonja is the organic food, the untouched natural scenery, and the hospitality of the people.”
“It’s our first time in Albania. We’ve toured the entire country and have been amazed by the way we’ve been welcomed. The archaeological sites, the nature, and especially the food have made these days unforgettable. I think we’ll definitely come back again,” said the French tourist.
According to tourist guides, foreign visitors are increasingly seeking authentic experiences, where they can get a closer look at the lives of local residents and the traditions of the area.
“They are amazed that we have so much greenery because they do not know Albania well. They are impressed by the wild nature. In the Kolonja area, as a mountainous region with forests, they also get to taste traditional foods. The cuisine makes a strong impression on them because every city has its own characteristic dishes,” emphasized Klejdi Shtrembi – tourist guide.
Amid untouched nature, tradition, and authentic flavors, Kolonja is becoming a destination that is not only visited to be seen, but also to be experienced. Culinary tourism, combined with hospitality and the everyday life of local residents, is attracting more and more foreign tourists every year, turning the area into one of the most appealing green tourism destinations in southeastern Albania.
