A horrific incident was uncovered on Sunday in the Kypseli area of Athens, where Greek police found the lifeless body of a baby in a frozen state, placed inside a container in a suitcase. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
According to Greek media, the incident came to light following a complaint from the owner of a short-term rental apartment on Thasou Street. The owner informed police that the people staying at the property had not paid and were refusing to leave. He also raised suspicions that drugs were being used inside the apartment.
Officers from the DIAS police unit arrived at the apartment and carried out a search. According to reports, several people were inside, including a 43-year-old Greek man, his 15-year-old daughter, a German woman, an Afghan national, and two minor children.
During the search, police officers found suitcases, which were taken for examination. Inside one of them, they discovered a container holding the frozen body of the baby. Some Greek media outlets have described the remains as those of a baby, while CNN Greece and SKAI report that it was a fetus approximately seven to eight months old. This discrepancy is expected to be clarified by the forensic examination.
According to Newsbomb, the German woman who was in the apartment told authorities that the baby was hers and that it had been born around eight months earlier. Authorities have not yet publicly determined the cause or exact time of death.
Greek media also report that a 15-year-old girl and an Afghan national, who is suspected of being her partner, were present in the apartment. Initial information regarding their circumstances and other claims related to the case remain under verification by the authorities.
The people who were in the apartment were taken to the police station, while the owner was called to provide his statement. The preliminary investigation is ongoing, and authorities are awaiting the results of the forensic examination, which is expected to provide information about the cause, timing, and circumstances of the death.
