France has secured a place in the World Cup quarterfinals after defeating Paraguay 1–0 at “Lincoln Financial Field”.

The only goal of the match was scored by Kylian Mbappé from the penalty spot, giving “Les Bleus” the victory and a clash with Morocco in the last eight.

Paraguay, which eliminated Germany on penalties in the previous round, put in a very disciplined defensive performance and managed to block French attacks for a long time. Although Didier Deschamps’ side dominated possession and controlled the tempo of the game, they failed to register a single shot on target in the first half.

The match was also marked by strong challenges and tension on the pitch. After a duel with Andrés Cubas, Mbappé lost his composure and became involved in a clash between players, increasing the intensity of the encounter.

In the second half, France stepped up the pressure, and goalkeeper Orlando Gill was forced into his first crucial save after a long-range shot from Manu Koné. The substitution of Désiré Doué proved decisive, as just minutes after coming on he won a penalty after being fouled by Diego Gómez.

From the penalty spot, Kylian Mbappé did not miss, sending the ball into the net and breaking the deadlock. In the remaining minutes, France managed their lead, while Mbappé came close to a second goal in stoppage time, but Orlando Gill produced two spectacular saves.

In the end, the 1–0 victory was enough for France to advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face the tournament’s surprise team, Morocco.
