A car accident on “Dimokratias” Street, in the Luca area on the outskirts of Athens, left one Albanian teenager dead and two others seriously injured. The victim is 16-year-old Eljon Metaj.

According to preliminary information, one of the teenagers had taken his mother’s car keys without permission and went for a drive together with two friends. Under still unclear circumstances, the vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree. As a result, Eljon Metaj lost his life at the scene, while the driver and another minor were urgently transported to the hospital. Sources say the injured are out of danger for their lives.

Greek police have detained the driver of the vehicle and his parents, while the victim’s body has been sent to the morgue. Investigations to fully clarify the circumstances are continuing by the traffic police of the Athens Police Directorate.

The incident raises concerns about teenage safety and the use of vehicles, highlighting the need for greater supervision and education for minors.

A witness from the area recounted: “The ambulances arrived immediately. One of the children got out of the car. We heard a loud noise, but we didn’t understand what had happened.”
