From the United States, singer Parashqevi Simaku has publicly responded to her name being widely mentioned in the Albanian media.
Her statement:
For 10 months now, my name has been used as a target by people trying to gain attention through slander and falsehoods.
I never imagined I would have to respond to such low accusations that have nothing to do with reality.
But in fact, this is not the first time it happens. Even in the years 1985–1988, people talked about me — about the awards I had earned through hard work, dedication, and sacrifice — but many spoke with bitterness and envy. Even then, just like today, I chose not to stop.
Today I want to say just this: You can’t do anything to me. My audience has known me for years and knows very well who I am, what I have given, and what I represent.
If you choose to bring someone else down with slander just for a few clicks, be sure of this: at that moment, you only lower yourself.
I will continue on my path with dignity and the truth by my side. That is my strength.
The statement comes after remarks made by Shqipe Hysenaj, who accused Simaku of “taking other women’s husbands,” a very serious allegation.
