Venezuela was struck by two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, considered the strongest to hit the country in more than a century.
Amid the tragedy caused by the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, a mother became a symbol of sacrifice, giving her life to save her young daughter.
The news was made public by Venezuelan footballer Héctor Bello, who, in an emotional Instagram message, announced that his wife Andrea sacrificed her life to protect their daughter during the two powerful seismic shocks.
“I will tell our daughter the story of how you saved her. How you gave your life for her, how you were a brave woman who never gave up until your last breath,” Bello wrote.
According to local media, Andrea was found dead under the rubble, while the couple’s daughter survived. The footballer also said that the child is in hospital and out of danger, together with her aunt.

According to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, at least 172 people are believed to still be trapped under the rubble, while only in La Guaira, 243 people have been rescued. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez stated that dozens of citizens have been pulled alive from the debris and that so far 214 aftershocks have been recorded.
According to reports on citizen platforms and unofficial networks, more than 51,000 people have been reported missing.
The two earthquakes struck the country just seconds apart. The second quake, with a magnitude of 7.5, is considered one of the most powerful to hit Venezuela in more than a century.
