A wave of shock swept through the stadium on Thursday when Atlético Nacional’s right-back, Andrés Felipe Román, suddenly collapsed on the field.
The 29-year-old Colombian international (2 caps) suffered a medical episode during his team’s 2-1 victory over Santa Fe in Primera A, Colombia’s top football division.
Fortunately, Román later got up and walked off the field. He reassured fans via Instagram, stating:"I'm okay, thank you for all your messages."
According to Colombian daily El Tiempo, Román’s ECG results also gave encouraging signs, showing no serious anomalies.
This isn’t the first heart-related concern for the player—his 2021 transfer to Boca Juniors was cancelled due to a previously detected cardiac issue.
Román was also part of Colombia’s squad in their recent 2026 World Cup qualifier against Argentina (1-1), playing on Wednesday.
