Skënderbeu returns and sends a warning: The European history could be repeated

Skënderbeu Korçë’s return to the top tier of Albanian football is not just a sporting achievement, but a clear signal that one of the country’s most important clubs is ready to reclaim its identity and ambition. After a convincing 4–0 win against Kastrioti, the Korça side mathematically secured promotion to the Superiore, capping off a season they dominated almost from start to finish.

At the heart of this success is coach Ernest Gjoka, who took charge of the team at a delicate moment and managed to build a competitive, consistent, and above all winning squad. In a statement for “Ora Sport,” Gjoka emphasized that this return is fully deserved, following a long season marked by sacrifice and constant pressure.

“Skënderbeu deserved to return to the Superiore. We’ve gone through difficult moments in recent years, but this group showed character and consistency,” said the coach, highlighting that the team stayed at the top of the table for nine months in a strong First Division campaign.

However, Gjoka’s strongest remarks were related to the broader state of Albanian football. He raised concerns about the lack of results on the international stage, describing it as a “major handicap.”

“For 10 years, since Skënderbeu’s suspension, no Albanian team has managed to achieve what we did in Europe. That says a lot,” he stressed, suggesting that the Korça club could once again become a reference point for restoring dignity in European competitions.

Skënderbeu’s history on the international stage remains one of the golden chapters of Albanian football, and according to Gjoka, this is no coincidence. “Perhaps Skënderbeu knows the path better than others,” he added, fueling belief that a new era could be on the horizon.

Despite the enthusiasm, the coach remained cautious about the future, stressing that the focus stays on the remaining matches and finishing the season with dignity. “We’ve achieved our objective, but we still have more to give in these two games,” said Gjoka.

Returning to the Superiore is only the first step. For Skënderbeu Korçë, the real challenge begins now: to restore its former glory and prove that past success can be repeated. Whether this will happen remains to be seen, but one thing is certain, Korça once again has reason to believe.
