A tragic incident has shaken Rome, where a young Italian couple was attacked in a quiet area of Tor Tre Teste Park. The Italian police reported that several individuals approached the couple’s car, smashed the window, and forcibly pulled them out of the vehicle.
The 24-year-old man was held down by two of the attackers, while his 18-year-old fiancée was dragged a few meters away and sexually assaulted.
After the incident, the perpetrators fled, taking the couple’s personal belongings with them.
The young couple immediately notified the police, who began identifying the offenders. So far, three Moroccan nationals have been arrested, accused of gang sexual assault and robbery.
Foreign media report that two of them were caught a few days after the incident in Rome, while the third was arrested in Venice. Fingerprints found on the broken car window are believed to match the arrested suspects.
Investigations are ongoing, as authorities have not ruled out the possibility that others were involved in the attack.
The incident has reignited debate in Italy about cases of sexual violence and their connection to irregular migration. Recent episodes of violence against women have sparked protests in several Italian cities.
Last week, Italian lawmakers approved a significant legal change expanding the definition of sexual violence, making it easier for victims to report such cases.
