TERRIFYING / Multiple earthquakes, the strongest measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale!

The area around Mount Etna on the Italian island of Sicily was struck by several earthquakes, the strongest measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale, the National Institute of Geophysics (INGV) reported today.

According to initial reports, there has been no major damage, although some schools have been closed as a precautionary measure.

Etna, standing over 3,300 meters tall, is the largest active volcano in Europe. The strongest earthquake occurred this morning and was also felt in the city of Catania, located at the foot of the volcano, which has around 300,000 residents.

The mayor of Catania, Enrico Trantino, ordered the temporary closure of schools. Classes were also canceled in several surrounding municipalities. The city’s airport, however, remained open.
