The dilemma over a place in the First Division of Albanian football will be resolved through the match Kukësi – Butrinti.
The discussion about which team will take the spot, following the withdrawal of Bylis B due to the relegation of Bylis, has been clarified by a decision of the Executive Committee of the Albanian Football Federation.
FK Kukësi and KS Butrinti will face each other in a direct playoff match to determine which team will play in the First Division next season.
The Executive Committee of the Albanian Football Federation resolved this situation after the relegation of KF Bylis from the Abissnet Superiore. In this scenario, Bylis will play next season one division lower, the same level where Bylis B had recently been competing after eliminating Kukësi. However, since regulations prohibit two teams from the same club competing in the same division, Bylis B will also be moved down to the Second Division.
“Following the proposal of the Leagues and Competitions Commission and the Legal Commission, the Executive Committee decided to hold a single playoff match between KF Kukësi and KF Butrinti, at a neutral venue, to determine the team that will participate in the First Division in the 2026/27 season,” the official decision states.
Meanwhile, Kukësi had submitted a complaint to the football governing body, claiming that Bylis B used more first-team players than allowed by regulations. However, this was not taken into consideration, as a final decision has now been made, rejecting all alternative scenarios.
The stadium, date, and time for the Kukësi – Butrinti match will be announced in the coming days.
