A serious family tragedy has shaken Rome, where a couple and their 5-year-old daughter were found dead in their home in the Pietralata area, on the outskirts of the Italian capital.

The incident was discovered around midday on Monday, August 31, after relatives of Luca Abbasciano, 42, and Valentina Pambianco, 41, had been unable to reach them for several hours. Police and firefighters arrived at around 1 p.m. and, after forcing open the door, found the bodies of the three family members in bed.

According to authorities, all three had suffered gunshot wounds. Preliminary investigations are treating the case as the killing of the minor daughter, followed by the suicide of the two parents.

Several letters addressed to relatives and close friends were found near the bodies. They reportedly contained apologies, explanations, and instructions regarding what should be done in the aftermath. Investigators found around 20 farewell letters, each apparently addressed to a specific family member.

In one of the letters, Luca asked his sister, who had raised the alarm after being unable to contact the family, to take care of their father.

In another message, the couple had written: “We can’t do this alone.”

Bianca was born prematurely in 2021 and, according to reports by Italian media, had disabilities and multiple health problems.

Neighbors said that the parents loved their daughter deeply, but her health condition had placed a heavy burden on the family’s life.

“They loved this little girl very much, but she was born with many problems. They were afraid she wouldn’t live long, and all of this was becoming very exhausting for them,” a neighbor said.
