Italian Carabinieri arrested 45-year-old Ismail Picari, who is suspected of attempting to kill his 44-year-old wife by driving the vehicle they were traveling in into the sea at the port of Cattolica, in the province of Rimini.
According to the investigation, the man had invited his wife to go for a drive, telling her they were going shopping. However, after they arrived in the port area, he allegedly accelerated and drove the vehicle toward the water.
The car initially crashed into a pole before ending up in the sea, in an area approximately three meters deep.
The 45-year-old managed to get out of the vehicle, while his wife remained inside as the car was filling with water. She managed to free herself through the rear window. Several people who were on the shore immediately intervened, entering the water and helping the couple reach the shore.
The woman was taken to a hospital in Pesaro for medical examinations. Meanwhile, the man left the scene but was later located by authorities near a wooded area.
The incident occurred just one night after another suspected violent episode. According to the investigation, Picari had been arrested following a family dispute, during which he allegedly threatened and damaged a police vehicle, while two officers sustained minor injuries.
Following the investigative procedures, the 45-year-old was detained on suspicion of attempted murder and handed over to the Rimini Prosecutor’s Office.
