New information has been released about the suspected perpetrator of the armed incident during the journalists’ dinner at the Hilton Washington hotel, where U.S. President Donald Trump was also present.
According to American media, the suspect was seen running toward the hall where the event was taking place before being stopped by security forces.
He has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen.
Authorities in Washington, D.C. report that the suspect is currently in a local hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment while under police supervision.
Meanwhile, U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that charges against him are expected to be filed “very soon.”
According to Jeffery W. Carroll, acting chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect was armed with multiple weapons.
“He was armed with a shotgun, a pistol, and several knives,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Secret Service agent who was injured during the intervention has been taken to hospital and is in good condition.
