WORLD CUP 2026 / Resold tickets cheaper than FIFA’s official ones

Tickets for the 2026 World Cup are being sold on the resale market for less than those offered directly by FIFA, increasing expectations that prices may drop further in the weeks before the tournament begins.

FIFA opened a new sales phase yesterday, and for the opening match of the United States against Paraguay in Los Angeles on June 12, a Category 1 ticket cost $2,735.

However, on FIFA’s official resale platform, tickets of the same category were being offered starting from $1,300—less than half the direct sale price.

This difference has sparked debate about FIFA’s dynamic pricing strategy.

U.S. President Donald Trump reacted to the high prices, telling the *New York Post* that “even I wouldn’t pay that.”

Meanwhile, FIFA continues to defend its pricing policy, arguing that more affordable tickets are also available.

On the main ticket sales website, there were no longer seats available for 10 matches, including the final, the Portugal–Colombia match, and several potential knockout-stage games where Lionel Messi could play with Argentina.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that the organization has received around 500 million ticket requests and has sold over 90% of the total inventory, with more than 5.0 million tickets sold so far.
