World Cup 2026 / Madness in the 95th minute, Ghana wins 1–0 against Panama!

Ghana has begun its 2026 World Cup campaign with a victory, defeating Panama 1–0 in a Group L match played in the early hours of Thursday morning (Albanian time).

The match was characterized by a high tempo, strong midfield duels, and numerous chances for both teams, who fought until the very end to secure the three points. However, the decisive goal came only in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

After a quick run down the wing by Thomas-Asante, the ball reached Caleb Yirenkyi, who made no mistake in front of goal, sending it into the net and sparking celebrations in the “Black Stars” camp.

For the 20-year-old, it was a brilliant World Cup debut. Yirenkyi now has two goals in 12 appearances for Ghana’s national team. The FC Nordsjælland midfielder is valued at around €10 million on the transfer market and is reportedly being followed by clubs such as Real Madrid, Porto, and Strasbourg.

After the opening matches in Group L, England and Ghana lead the standings with three points each, while Panama and Croatia are still without points. In the upcoming fixtures, Ghana will face England on June 23, while Panama will play Croatia one day later.
