After the painful elimination and the controversy over penalty takers, coach Carlo Ancelotti has explained why star Vinicius Jr. was not the one who took the decisive penalty.

According to Ancelotti, the decision was not random but based on detailed statistical analysis.

“We did some statistics and the best was Raphinha,” the coach stated.

He further explained the hierarchy of players available to take the penalty.

“Among the available players, the best was Neymar, then Igor Thiago, then Bruno Guimarães, and finally Martinelli.”

Despite this list, Ancelotti admitted that the final choice during the match was influenced by the players’ condition on the pitch. “We chose Bruno because we thought he was the best on the pitch at that moment,” he concluded.

This statement sheds light on the coaching staff’s strategy in high-pressure penalty situations, showing that for Ancelotti, statistics and players’ current form remain the main selection criteria.
