Albania scorches as meteorologist warns temperatures will reach 42°C

Albania is set to experience another of the hottest days of the summer today, with temperatures expected to reach as high as 42°C in some isolated areas, including Elbasan.

According to meteorologist Tanja Porja, the day began with temperatures around 2°C higher than the previous morning.

"In the mountainous areas, morning temperatures range between 20°C and 22°C, while they are significantly higher across the western half of the country. Berat started the day at 29–30°C, an exceptionally high temperature for the early morning hours," the meteorologist told A2 CNN.

Cloud cover is expected to increase around midday, initially over the north and northeast before spreading to central and southeastern areas, although it is not expected to have a significant impact on temperatures.

"Maximum temperatures will be recorded across the northern and central parts of the country. Shkodër is expected to exceed 39°C, Koplik will rise above 41°C, while Lezhë, Durrës, and Velipojë are forecast to reach around 39°C," Porja said.

According to the meteorologist, the highest temperatures of the day will be recorded in Elbasan, Berat, and Fier.

"In Tirana, the thermometer will climb to 40°C, while Elbasan County is expected to record the highest temperatures of the day, close to or reaching 42°C. Fier is also forecast to reach around 41°C, while Berat will approach 42°C."
