An emigrant travels 5 hours from Greece to meet Rama: “Let me see him, then let him die!”

While young people continue protesting against Rama outside his office, another scene has emerged from Pogradec, where the Prime Minister appears to still enjoy the support of at least some elderly citizens.

A 65-year-old Albanian man who has lived in Greece for 35 years traveled around five hours from Xanthi, Greece, to meet Rama.

Halim Bufi said he learned about the government meeting in Pogradec and immediately decided to set off, hoping to express his gratitude to Rama for policies that, according to him, have helped Albanian emigrants in Greece.

He did not hide his enthusiasm, saying he has high hopes of meeting the Prime Minister: “Let me meet him, then let me die. May he live as long as the mountains.”

“I came from Greece to meet Edi Rama and express my gratitude to him as an emigrant. He has done a lot for us during my 35 years in Greece, especially regarding pensions. Now he has also given us the news that our years of employment there will be recognized.

I traveled for five hours. I am with Fatos Nano, the honorable Fatos Nano. I went to prison in 1993, and Fatos Nano got me out. From that day, I left for Greece. The protests in Albania are pointless.

During the elections, I secured 185 votes. I have very high hopes of meeting him. Let me meet him, then let me die. May he live as long as the mountains,” he said.
