Shkëndija failed to secure a positive result in the first leg of the Champions League third qualifying round against Qarabag, suffering a narrow 0-1 defeat in Skopje.

After the final whistle, coach Jeton Beqiri stated that despite the loss, everything remains open for the return leg. He emphasized that the result came as a consequence of the team’s lack of focus in key moments.

“I want to thank the fans for their support throughout the 90 minutes. It was a balanced match against a very experienced opponent. What matters to me is that the players fought hard and gave their all,” said Beqiri after the match.

The coach admitted that the first half did not meet expectations, but noted that the team responded well in the second:

“I wasn’t satisfied with our performance in the first half. In the second half, we improved and created our own chances. In the end, what decided the match was our lack of attention.”

Beqiri expressed confidence ahead of the second leg, adding:

“We’ll give everything we have in the return match. We didn’t lose by a catastrophic score, but with a minimal defeat, which still keeps us in the race for qualification.”
