“Blitz” inspection at prison, 5 mobile phones found

Five mobile phones were found in the early hours of the morning during a search of Sector B of Durrës Prison, where several former officials are being held, including Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj.

So far, it has not been determined who the devices belong to, and there is no information linking them to any specific person held in this sector.

The search was carried out by the structures of the General Directorate of Prisons. Following the discovery of the mobile phones, verification procedures were launched to identify their users and determine how the devices ended up inside the facility.

According to journalist Anila Hoxha, the five mobile phones have been forwarded to the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) through the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH), where they will undergo examination in a specialized forensic laboratory.

The forensic examination is expected to determine who used the devices and whether they were active while inside the prison.

Investigations are also continuing to establish how the mobile phones were brought into Sector B of Durrës Prison.
